Monitor trends, not just today's total
Check generation, consumption, grid flows and battery state where the installed sensors support them. Compare similar weather periods and look for sustained drops, missing devices or repeated faults. A cloudy day is not proof of failure; a silent monitoring connection is not proof the panels stopped.
Keep owner access and record the commissioning baseline. Ask who receives fault alerts, what remote support includes and how quickly onsite service can be arranged.
Cleaning should follow the site and manufacturer
Dust, debris and nearby trees can reduce yield. Use the manufacturer's cleaning guidance and a qualified service provider where roof access is involved. Do not climb onto panels, use abrasive chemicals or pressure-wash electrical parts.
There is no single cleaning interval for every roof. Plan inspections around local soiling, vegetation and severe weather. Ask the installer to check mounting, roof penetrations, wiring, connectors and protection as part of professional maintenance.
Know when to stop and call
Keep access routes and ventilation clear. Do not open electrical enclosures or try to repair connectors, batteries or damaged panels. If you notice smoke, burning smells, exposed wiring, flood damage or a hot/damaged battery, keep people away and contact emergency services or your qualified installer as appropriate.
Only use the documented shutdown procedure if it is safe to do so. A disconnected system can still contain live PV circuits and stored energy.
Four promises that should not be confused
Keep invoices, serial numbers, activation records, drawings and maintenance evidence. Request the applicable Philippines warranty before buying. Longer headline coverage is only useful if the scope, claim process and local support are clear.
| Warranty / promise | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Panel product warranty | Which defects are covered and who supplies the replacement? |
| Panel performance warranty | What output is retained under the stated test conditions? This is not a guaranteed electricity bill. |
| Inverter / battery warranty | Which model, period, cycles, throughput, retained capacity and exclusions apply? |
| Workmanship / service | Who covers leaks, labor, transport, access and installation-related defects? |
Review before buying more
Use several months of monitored data to revisit daytime use, surplus and outage needs. Compare the incremental benefit of an upgrade with its installed cost and future maintenance. Protecting the performance of the system you already own may be more valuable than adding capacity.
